If we have to summarize in one sentence, what the difference is between G-d and our carnal thinking you get the following definition:
G-d teaches us to be loving and humble, and He sets us free! Our flesh is arrogant and binds us!
Many people do not understand, are not even aware of it, how deeply sinful our carnal thinking is.
The battle that is going on is between:
Humility - self-denial & Pride - self-promotion.
Every soul knows where he comes from! The soul knows that it was created by the Maker, by G-d! And this soul in us is restless, the soul is looking for G-D!
People want to silence this unrest by:
- Having matter; Buying and chasing beautiful things.
- Addictions; Smoking, drugs, sex, booze, gambling-- - Raising the bar in the tension search and taking on challenges.
- Wanting to be part of something to be able to identify with someone else or a group.
The person, who already follows G-d, but not 100% experiences the same turmoil, a kind of pain in the heart and is going to try to feed, alleviate this unrest, this nagging pain, by being able to belong and therefore to identify with the group. And certainly, with a leading person! A slightly more powerful soul does the same but vice versa, he/she is looking for people and situations that give him/her prestige and increase it!
Both groups, believers, and unbelievers, stronger (leaders) weaker (followers) do not bring their souls to G-d but want to find REST outside of Him.
The same turmoil, a kind of pain in the heart and the believer is going to try to feed, alleviate this unrest, this nagging pain, by being able to belong to, and therefore to identify with someone else, or a group. And for certain with a leading person!
A slightly more powerful soul does the same but vice versa, he/she is looking for people and situations that give him/her prestige and increase it! Both groups, believers, and unbelievers, stronger (leaders) weaker (followers) do not bring their souls to G-d but walk the journey outside of Him.
And the root of it all: PRIDE! They do not want to bow to G-D!
There is a pyramid culture in this world. Leaders, (they know everything and are untouchable and very high up)
And people who are insecure and who have no dignity or self-worth (they know nothing, always need help with everything and are actually feeling as a nobody)
These two groups lean against each other, the system sustains itself! If we take a closer look at what is actually happening, we come to the following conclusion:
A person who has no self-worth, and therefore does not love himself, will always seek safety in someone else.
We think we love ourselves, but this love is often based on love for ourselves as we would like to be, or think we are. He or she finds his or her confirmation in a group, leader, high-raised figure. But the root, as crazy as it might sound, is PRIDE!
People are deeply unhappy with themselves! People want to look like: fill in a name! One also often commits as a partner to great organizations, by donating money, and the big names become their great example, and their idol. And one does not expect it from G-D!
How is this possible? What is it that happens over and over again?
Because man is infected with what happened to Adam and Eve in paradise, deeper than he realizes himself... it is pride... Even to the point that they first blamed each other, and finally blamed G-d!
Our flesh wants to be higher than G-d, and we do not want to recognize this dark cloud that lies upon us, but instead we feed it precisely by seeking it in groups and in other people! As a result, we are getting further and further away from G-d and passing this depraved path on to the next generation.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of righteous memory (1902-1994), once said the soul of every Jew is born religious (with faith*) because we are G-d's set apart people, but some need to be awakened.
This is the promise for that awakening:
And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto Shomayim, and swore, By the One who liveth haolam (forever), it shall be for a time, times, and a half a time; and when there is an end of breaking in pieces the yad Am Kodesh (power of the Holy People), all these things shall come to an end.
It is time for restoration. May as with Dovid, the Spirit fall on Amasai.
Meaning, that G-d can bring us together! His plan, His timing, His doing!
*Shekhinah also spelled Shechinah (Hebrew: שְׁכִינָה Šəḵīnā, Tiberian: Šăḵīnā) is the English transliteration of a Hebrew word meaning "dwelling" or "settling" and denotes the presence of G-d, as it were, in a place. This concept is found in Judaism.
1 Chronicles 12:18 Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, the chief of the Thirty, and he said: "We are yours, O David! We are with you, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to your helpers, for your G-d helps you." So David received them and made them leaders of his troops.
Daniel 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto Shomayim, and swore, By the One who liveth haolam (forever), it shall be for a time, times, and a half a time; and when there is an end of breaking in pieces the yad Am Kodesh (power of the Holy People), all these things shall com
